Buying clothes online is easy once you know your numbers. This guide shows you how to measure and how to choose a t-shirt size from XS to XXXL, so you order the right size the first time.
The two measurements that matter
- Chest width: lay a t-shirt flat and measure straight across, from one underarm seam to the other.
- Length: measure from the highest point of the shoulder, next to the collar, down to the hem.
Use a t-shirt you already love
The most reliable method is to measure a t-shirt that already fits you the way you like. Write down the chest width and the length, then compare them with the measurements listed for each size on the product page.
Sizes in order
Sizes run from small to large in this order: XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL and XXXL. Different styles are cut differently, so a medium in an oversized t-shirt is not the same as a medium in a fitted one. Always check the options shown on the product page.
Choosing by fit
- Regular fit: choose the size that matches your measurements.
- Oversized fit: choose your usual size for a roomy look, or one size down for a slightly closer fit.
- Between two sizes: choose the bigger one if you like comfort, the smaller one if you like a neat shape.
Our full comparison is in oversized vs regular fit t-shirts.
Common mistakes
- Measuring your body instead of a t-shirt that fits
- Ignoring the length, which changes how the t-shirt looks with trousers
- Assuming every style runs the same
